Extended Family

Through all the times that I’ve been low
Through all my downs and all my woes
I got a list of numbers I can call to help me out

So many I have known for years
Some days new ones still appear
And it’s easy to forget sometimes
How lucky I really am

As I grow older
Sure I’ll see some leave home and slip away
Space and time between gets in the way
Even the closest have to part sometimes
But don’t let distance stop you getting back what you once had
A friend’s bond never really breaks

Half of a lifetime passed since you’ve last spoken
It’s hard to even recognise the person that you see
Sit down have a chat about the old times
Soon you’ll see the friend you knew’s still hidden underneath

Don’t be fooled by the clothes they wear, the facial hair
The superficial features
‘Cause however much the visuals may have been replaced
Deep down they’ll still be the same
A person’s soul’s the only thing that’ll never really change
